History of Lotto 6/45
From the Yugoslav Lottery's first drawing in Belgrade in October 1945, modern Croatian lotteries have been held and organized. Lotteries have been documented in Croatia since 1762 in Zagreb.
As a part of the Yugoslav lottery, the Hrvatska Lutrija, one of the many regional lotteries, was created in 1951. It gained independence and became a distinct entity within the Socialist Republic of Croatia twenty years later. It is still the only organization permitted to offer lottery games in Croatia, including internet gaming.
When Croatia was still a communist nation in the 1960s, the government started to allow gambling. The government tolerated gambling, but it was only allowed during soccer matches.
When the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, the first operator with a government license was allowed to accept gamblers from Croatia. The wagering was limited and could only be available at particular gaming booths or shops.
The inaugural Loto 6 draw was conducted on November 6, 1988, and Hrvatska Lutrija ran it. This draw was held on Sundays, and a second draw was added on March 22, 2018.
